How I found out about this book: Alethea sent me this book, which she got as an ARC from ALA, then she very generously mailed it to me!

My Review: Mclean’s parents' divorce changed her whole life. Not wanting to stay with her selfish mother, Mclean has been with her dad and his unpredictable job, traveling all over the place. Mclean doesn’t stay in one place for longer than 6 months at a time, always changing her name and identity with each new town. But then upon her new arrival in Lakeview she doesn't pretend to be someone else, but decides to just be herself.

Like every other Sarah Dessen novel I have read, What Happened to Goodbye blew me away! The character development in this book was phenomenal, and throughout the process of the story I could feel McClean’s feelings and her struggle. It was like I was the character, which I guess is one of the top examples of a well-written story. And nearing the end, I even teared up a little.

Well, “teared up” wouldn’t really be all that honest, actually. I was crying, with tears streaming down my face and everything! And trust me, that never happens, so you can be assured that this story is one of those books that really attaches you to the characters.

The one thing that hinders me from giving the book a full 5 star review would be that the story was a little slow at first, and it took a little while to really get into the story. But once you got into it, it was hard to put it down! I read the last 150 pages in one sitting! But despite that, What Happened to Goodbye is a compelling, heart-warming story that demonstrates the impact of divorce and what a true friend is like.

  1. I love, love, love Sarah Dessen. I've read many of her books and I've loved almost all of them. I hated Dreamland, but that's it. I definitely cannot wait to read this one!! :D
